Precautions

When taking Eldepryl, you must strictly avoid foods that are high in tyramine, as the combination can cause a dangerous hypertensive crisis. Foods to avoid include: pickled herring, air-dried meats, aged or fermented meats, poultry, sausage or salami, and any spoiled or improperly stored beef, fish, or liver; aged cheeses such as blue, brick, boursault, brie, cheddar, camembert, emmenthaler, parmesan, romano, gruyere, roquefort, stilton, and swiss; beer from a tap or unpasteurized beer; over-the-counter supplements or cough and cold medicines that contain tyramine; sauerkraut, soybeans, soy sauce, tofu, miso soup, bean curd, fava beans; and yeast extracts. Consuming tyramine while taking this MAO-B inhibitor can elevate your blood pressure to dangerously high levels, potentially causing life-threatening cardiovascular side effects.

A minimum 14-day washout period is required between discontinuing these medications and starting Eldepryl to avoid dangerous drug interactions.



Possible side effect

Side effects may include various types of allergic reactions. The most serious possible side effects associated with selegiline include:

The combination of selegiline with serotonergic antidepressants can cause a potentially fatal condition known as serotonin syndrome.

Missed dose

Overdose
