Griseofulvin is an antifungal medication derived from the Penicillium species, widely prescribed for the treatment of fungal infections affecting the skin, hair, and nails. Dosage and direction

Precautions

Before taking Griseofulvin, inform your doctor if you are allergic to griseofulvin, penicillin, or any other medications, as cross-sensitivity may exist. Possible side effect

Griseofulvin may cause side effects that range from mild to serious. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience signs of an allergic reaction such as skin rash, hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, or difficulty breathing. Other serious side effects requiring prompt medical evaluation include:

breathing difficulties or shortness of breath;

confusion or disorientation;

dark-colored urine (possible sign of liver problems);

fever or signs of infection;

loss of appetite;

pain, tingling, or numbness in the hands or feet (peripheral neuropathy);

severe skin rash, blistering, or peeling;

sores or white patches in the mouth (oral candidiasis);

unusual fatigue or weakness;

yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice).

Less serious but common side effects include:

mild dizziness;

headache;

nausea and vomiting;

stomach pain or upset;

difficulty sleeping (insomnia).

Drug interaction

Griseofulvin interacts with several important medications. Missed dose

If you forget to take your Griseofulvin dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to compensate. Take your next dose at the regular time the following day.



Overdose

Symptoms of Griseofulvin overdose are not well characterized but may include: lethargy, vertigo, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Seek emergency medical attention if symptoms are severe.



Storage
